After events of Sonic CD and Sonic 2, Sonic was heading back home, when back in Angel Island, eggman was already in the island, and he blew up the master emerald, before sonic knew about it. causing the shards of the emeralds being scattered in big rings, of the South island, Once sonic noticed it, Eggman fleed Angel Island to stop Sonic from obtaining them, making Sonic go through another adventure on the South Island.
